BAIC's Arcfox brand has announced the pre-sale of its latest offering, the Alpha T5, a mid-sized SUV that marks a significant expansion of their lineup with both electric and extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs). This move comes as the electric vehicle market continues to evolve rapidly in China, offering consumers more choices and technological advancements.
The Arcfox Alpha T5 is available in six variants, with prices ranging from 123,800 to 162,800 yuan ($17,300 to $22,800 USD). The most notable addition to the lineup is the extended-range version, which features a 1.5-liter range extender system that provides a pure electric range of 215 kilometers under the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) conditions. This variant is designed to appeal to consumers who are looking for the flexibility of both electric and gasoline power sources. The pure electric versions have also seen enhancements, with the maximum range now reaching 705 kilometers (CLTC), making them a competitive option for buyers seeking longer range capabilities.
In terms of design, the Alpha T5 retains a sleek exterior with a closed front grille and distinctive triangular headlights that incorporate LED daytime running lights. The SUV measures 4760mm in length, 1936mm in width, and 1650mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2845mm, providing a spacious interior. Standard across all variants are 19-inch wheels, which add to the vehicle's robust stance. Inside, the technological updates include a 15.6-inch central control screen along with a 22.8-inch head-up display (HUD). These features combine with connectivity options like CarPlay and HiCar, ensuring both drivers and passengers have access to modern infotainment and convenience features.
The Alpha T5’s powertrain options are diverse, catering to both power and efficiency enthusiasts. The pure electric models come with single motors offering power outputs of either 185 kW (248 hp) or 200 kW (268 hp), with peak torques of 320 N·m and 360 N·m, respectively. Battery capacities vary from 64.8 kWh to 79.2 kWh, delivering ranges of 560 km, 660 km, and 705 km. Meanwhile, the extended-range version combines a 77 kW 1.5-liter range extender with a 200 kW electric motor, achieving a total range of 1,215 km when both power sources are utilized. This model can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.5 seconds, demonstrating its capability as a high-performance utility vehicle.
Safety and autonomous features are not overlooked in the Alpha T5. All models come equipped with Level 2 autonomous driving capabilities. Higher trim levels boast advanced technologies such as Qualcomm 8775 chips that support urban and highway Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) and intelligent parking assistance. These features are designed to enhance the driving experience by providing added convenience and safety, aligning with the growing trend towards more automated vehicle functions in the automotive industry.
The introduction of the Arcfox Alpha T5 with its extended-range electric vehicle variant represents a strategic move for BAIC as they expand their footprint in the electric vehicle market. By offering both pure electric and extended-range options, Arcfox is addressing the diverse needs of consumers who are looking for both sustainability and flexibility in their choice of transportation. As the automotive industry continues to evolve, the Alpha T5 positions itself as a forward-thinking model that could influence future developments in electric vehicle offerings.
