In an exciting development from the Chinese electric vehicle market, Geely has unveiled its all-electric variant of the Galaxy Starship 7 SUV. This new model boasts a powerful 215hp electric motor, marking a significant leap towards an electrified future. The design remains consistent with its PHEV predecessor, but significant advancements in performance and technology make this vehicle a noteworthy contender in the EV sector.

The Geely Galaxy Starship 7 EV, recently revealed through a filing by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), is powered by a 160 kW electric motor, translating to approximately 215 horsepower. This powertrain sets a new benchmark for electric SUVs in its class. While the exterior design mirrors the previously released plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version, the internal mechanics offer a fresh take on zero-emission driving.

The dimensions of the new EV model slightly diverge from its PHEV counterpart, measuring 4750 mm in length, 1905 mm in width, and 1680 mm in height, with a wheelbase extending to 2755 mm. These figures suggest a focus on maintaining a spacious interior while optimizing aerodynamics. The vehicle's curb weight varies across four declared trim levels, ranging from 1712 kg to 1798 kg, hinting at customizable features tailored to different consumer preferences.

The Starship 7 EV's top speed is capped at 175 km/h, emphasizing efficiency and stability over sheer speed. It utilizes a lithium iron phosphate battery, though specific details on the battery capacity or driving range remain undisclosed. This choice of battery technology underscores a focus on safety and longevity, aligning with Geely's commitment to sustainable transportation.

Geely's strategic use of its GEA platform for both EV and PHEV versions reveals its modular approach to vehicle design, allowing for seamless transitions between different powertrain technologies. The PHEV model, which integrates Geely’s NordThor EM-i system, offers a combined range of up to 1,420 km, showcasing the potential for future EV range improvements.

The Geely Galaxy Starship 7 EV also features an array of optional configurations, such as advanced window trim, privacy glass, and state-of-the-art radar systems, catering to a tech-savvy audience looking for both style and functionality. As Geely continues to innovate, this model represents a significant step in expanding its EV lineup, promising to capture the attention of global markets.
