In a strategic move to expand its footprint beyond China, Li Auto, the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, has inaugurated its first overseas retail center in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This milestone signals the company's ambitions to tap into the global market amid intense competition at home.
Li Auto's decision to open its first international retail center in Uzbekistan marks a significant step in the company's global strategy. The launch on October 13 in Tashkent comes as Li Auto seeks to establish a presence in Central Asia, with plans to further expand into Kazakhstan and eventually the Middle East and Europe. This move is accelerated due to mounting competition within China's domestic market, which has seen Li Auto's sales decline in Q3 of 2025 compared to the same period in 2023.
Historically, Li Auto's vehicles reached Central Asian markets through third-party channels, but the opening of the Tashkent center marks the company's official entry into the region. Unlike its direct sales model in China, Li Auto will operate through local dealers internationally, with Control Auto as its official partner in Uzbekistan. This partnership will enable Li Auto to offer comprehensive services, including official warranties, inspections, repair, and technical support, to customers who purchase vehicles from authorized centers.
Li Auto's initial international offerings include three crossover models: the L6, L7, and L9. These models will spearhead the company’s entrance into the Central Asian market, providing a diverse selection of vehicles tailored to the region's needs. The company has also announced its upcoming entry into Kazakhstan in November 2025, partnering with local dealers Allur and Doscar to enhance its market penetration.
To support its global ambitions, Li Auto has invested in research and development (R&D) centers in Germany and the United States. These centers aim to adapt the company's vehicles to meet various international regulatory requirements and to localize product offerings. By 2026, Li Auto plans to roll out new models specifically designed for overseas markets, leveraging its R&D capabilities to innovate and cater to diverse consumer preferences.
As Li Auto accelerates its global expansion, the company is setting its sights on not only expanding its geographical presence but also on increasing its competitive edge in the NEV market. By strategically entering emerging markets and establishing strong local partnerships, Li Auto is poised to enhance its brand recognition and market share on the international stage.
