Mercedes-Benz has announced the pre-sale of its all-new, all-electric CLA Long-Wheelbase model in China. The electric sedan, available in two variants, boasts impressive features such as an 866 km range and a starting price of 36,000 USD, marking a significant milestone for the luxury automaker in the competitive electric vehicle market.

The recent unveiling of the all-electric CLA 300 L at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show has generated considerable excitement among automotive enthusiasts and potential buyers. The model is available in two distinct variants: the CLA 300 L Ultra-Long Range Edition, priced at 259,000 yuan (approximately 36,000 USD), and the CLA 300 L Ultra-Long Range Intelligent Edition, with a pre-sale price of 299,000 yuan (around 41,600 USD). These models are built on an innovative 800V electrical architecture that supports both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations.

A key feature of the all-electric CLA is its extended wheelbase, which adds 40mm to the standard model, enhancing passenger comfort and vehicle stability. The sedan's dimensions measure 4,763 mm in length, 1,856 mm in width, and 1,469 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,830 mm. These enhancements are not only aesthetic but also functional, as the vehicle achieves an aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.21, optimizing efficiency and performance.

Inside, Mercedes-Benz has integrated a cutting-edge triple-screen layout featuring a 10.25-inch LCD instrument cluster, a 14.6-inch central control screen, and an optional 14-inch passenger entertainment screen. This setup is powered by the latest MB.OS operating system, which includes capabilities such as AI voice assistance and 5G connectivity, ensuring a seamless and interactive user experience. Notably, these intelligent systems were largely developed by the company's R&D team in China, highlighting the region's importance in Mercedes-Benz's global strategy.

Performance-wise, the single-motor rear-wheel-drive variant of the CLA delivers a maximum output of 268 horsepower, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 96 km/h in just 6.6 seconds. For those seeking more power, the all-wheel-drive version offers a combined output of 349 horsepower, achieving the same acceleration in 4.8 seconds. The vehicle's 85kWh ternary lithium battery supports the notable 866 km CLTC range, while the 800V technology allows for ultra-fast charging, providing 325 km of range in just 10 minutes.

The integration of the MB.OS architecture and L2++ full-scenario intelligent driving assistance represents a significant leap in autonomous driving capabilities. Developed in collaboration with Chinese startup Momenta, these systems provide advanced features that enhance safety and driving convenience. The focus on intelligent technology underscores Mercedes-Benz's commitment to innovation and its strategy to leverage local expertise in its largest market outside of Germany.

As Mercedes-Benz continues to expand its footprint in the electric vehicle sector, the launch of the CLA 300 L in China is expected to bolster its position against competitors. With a strong emphasis on technology, performance, and luxury, the new model is poised to attract a discerning clientele eager to embrace the future of mobility. The pre-sale announcement marks a pivotal moment for Mercedes-Benz, as it looks to capture a significant share of the burgeoning Chinese electric vehicle market.

Ah, Mercedes is at it again, blending luxury with innovation. The extended wheelbase is a clever touch—more legroom for long drives! It'll be interesting to see how this holds up against local competitors in China’s electric car race.

36k USD for an EV with 866 km range seems ambitious. The extended wheelbase and triple-screen system are notable, but will MB.OS and other tech hold up under real-world conditions? I'd wait for performance reviews before any decisions.
