In an impressive demonstration of consumer interest, IM Motors' latest release, the LS6 SUV, achieved a remarkable milestone by garnering over 10,000 firm orders within just 27 minutes of its launch. This swift uptake underscores the growing appeal of electric vehicles in the competitive Chinese market.
The new IM LS6 has been introduced by SAIC's IM Motors as a mid-to-large coupe SUV, offering both extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and pure electric vehicle (BEV) options. Priced from 197,900 yuan (approximately $27,500 USD), the vehicle arrives in nine different configurations, aiming to cater to a wide array of consumer preferences. The rapid pace at which the LS6 reached 10,000 orders highlights not only the anticipation surrounding the release but also the burgeoning demand for diverse electric mobility solutions.
Design-wise, the LS6 largely maintains the aesthetic blueprint of its predecessor, though it introduces several notable updates. These include newly designed T-shaped headlights and a repositioned IM Motors logo now adorning the hood rather than the front bumper. Measuring 4,937mm in length, 1,988mm in width, and 1,673mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,960mm, the SUV is available in six distinct exterior colors. Inside, the vehicle boasts a cutting-edge cockpit with a floating dual-screen setup for the driver and an additional passenger screen, all of which offer high-resolution displays.
A standout feature of the LS6 is its Lingxi digital chassis, complemented by upgraded hardware like the new MKC2 steer-by-wire braking system from Continental Group. This system delivers a 100km/h to 0 braking distance of just 33.6 meters. The Lingxi Digital Chassis 2.0 further enhances maneuverability with two-way 18° four-wheel steering, achieving a turning radius of 4.79 meters. Advanced driver-assistance systems are also integrated, including a 520-line LiDAR system and Nvidia Thor-based solutions, offering features such as mapless Navigate on Autopilot and valet parking.
Powertrain options for the LS6 are robust. The EREV models incorporate the 'Stellar' Super Extended Range system, debuting as the first mass-produced vehicle to do so. Available with 52kWh and 66kWh battery packs, these options promise a pure electric range exceeding 450km and a combined range of more than 1,500km under the CLTC cycle. The AWD version offers a peak system power of 500 kW, allowing the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in a swift 3.48 seconds. Meanwhile, the BEV variant provides single and dual-motor configurations, with the latter achieving a maximum output of 500 kW (670 hp) and a range of 750km.
The market reception of the LS6 is indicative of broader trends within the Chinese electric vehicle market, where innovation and variety are key to capturing consumer interest.
