Wuling Launches Aishang A100C: The Grumpy Twin of Changan Lumin

In a bid to capture the competitive Chinese electric vehicle market, Wuling has unveiled its latest model, the Aishang A100C. Dubbed the 'grumpy version' of the Changan Lumin, this new electric city car aims to combine affordability with functionality, starting at a price point of 5,590 USD and offering a range of 220 kilometers.

Wuling, a prominent player in the Chinese automotive industry, has made strides in the electric vehicle sector with its latest launch. The Aishang A100C is designed to serve as a practical and cost-effective solution for urban commuting. A product of the SGMW (SAIC-GM-Wuling) joint venture, Wuling is renowned for its Hongguang Mini EV, which became the world's bestselling battery electric vehicle in 2021. The new Aishang A100C seeks to replicate this success on its own merit.

The Aishang A100C's design closely mirrors that of the Changan Lumin, launched in 2022, with striking similarities in appearance. However, Wuling's latest model distinguishes itself with its unique dimensions and design elements. Measuring 3285/1708/1550 mm with a wheelbase of 1,980 mm, the A100C features sleek lines, blackened pillars, and aerodynamic wheel covers. Its distinctive headlights give it a 'grumpy' look, setting it apart from its Changan counterpart.

Inside, the Aishang A100C offers a modern and practical interior. It includes a floating touchscreen, an LCD instrument cluster, and a gear shifter positioned behind a two-spoke steering wheel. The absence of a center tunnel increases space between the driver and passenger, while physical air conditioning controls and integrated headrests enhance comfort. The vehicle accommodates four seats and offers a trunk capacity of 106 liters, expanding to 882 liters with rear seats folded.

Under the hood, the Aishang A100C is powered by a rear-axle single electric motor delivering 35 kW (51 hp) and 83 Nm of torque. The vehicle is equipped with a Gotion-made LFP battery with a capacity of 17.65 kWh, which provides a range of up to 220 km under CLTC conditions. Four trim levels are available, with the entry-level model priced at 39,800 yuan (5,590 USD), positioning it slightly above the Changan Lumin and the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV.

As Wuling ventures into this dense market segment, the Aishang A100C faces stiff competition. Its pricing strategy, design, and features suggest a focus on urban drivers seeking affordable yet stylish transportation options. While the A100C enters a market with established players like the Changan Lumin, its unique design and practical features could attract a niche audience looking for an efficient city car with personality.
